Island Girl Returns

Key West in July. I don't have to tell you about tropical heat, do I? The locals taught me how to deal with it; find a restaurant/pub with A/C and stay planted till dusk. That way you can have all the calories you want at your fingertips. Island Beer, Florida Lobster, Key Lime Pie, to name a few of my favorites.

Each visit, I try at least two key lime pies and pick a winner. Last visit, it was Pepe''s with a graham crust. This visit, Square One Restaurant with a light, traditional pie crust.

The casually elegant eatery and setting were expected from the former owner of The Pines B&B. (Michael and I met years ago when I worked briefly at a neighboring guest mansion.)

I was enticed there by rumors of his fine wine list and signature seafood dishes and promise of a dee-licious Key Lime Pie experience.

Though not made by the chef, the dessert was freshly baked and dee-vine on my scale.

The abundant portions of food make it difficult, but you should definitely save room for the pie!

Kudos, Michael, for winning the "People's Choice for Favorite Overall Restaurant" in Key West.
